American is preparing a PD&E study to evaluate replacement of the eastbound I-275/Howard Frankland Bridge. This 50+ year old bridge is approximately three miles in length and carries over 125,000 vehicles per day. The study will include a regional transit corridor evaluation and preliminary alternatives analysis work to identify and win approval of a preliminary locally preferred alternative consistent with the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority Master Plan and the MPO’s Long Range Transportation Plans (LRTPs). The recommended alternative will provide a preferred transit connection from Pinellas County via the Howard Frankland Bridge to the planned High Speed Rail (HSR) line and the proposed local light rail system being developed in Tampa. The PD&E study will include evaluation and documentation requirements needed to secure federal approval for the planned replacement.
