This project includes the design for a new truck bypass route on Waynesboro’s west side that will connect SR 56 with SR 121/US 25 and on to SR 56 North. The proposed roadway will consist of two 12-foot-wide travel lanes with auxiliary turn lanes at major intersections. The preferred alternative improves existing Lovers Lane from SR 56 to Herman Lodge Boulevard through minor widening of the existing travel lanes and implementation of wider roadway shoulders, enhanced roadway ditches, and closed drainage systems. New location roadway will be utilized from the intersection of Lovers Lane and Herman Lodge Boulevard to tie into SR 121/US 25 at the existing intersection with Industrial Drive. A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Lovers Lane and SR 56/SR 24/SR 80. Coordination with Norfolk Southern Railroad will be required for modifications to the existing at-grade crossing on Lovers Lanes. The proposed roadway falls within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, therefore, a Section 404 permit will be required.
