This project includes a five-leg roundabout located along SR 52 at the I-75 southbound access ramps. In the current configuration there are three closely spaced intersections along SR 52 including West Bridge Road, College Drive and the southbound I-75 ramps. The proposed configuration will combine the College Drive intersection, the southbound I-75 ramp intersection and SR 52 into a single five-leg roundabout. The intersection at West Bridge Road will be relocated west of the existing location to create greater separation between the two intersections. American provided roundabout analysis and simulation for the intersection improvements. The analysis provided alternatives to improve operations and safety using the roundabout. SIDRA, SYNCHRO and HCS software were used in the analysis.
The construction of this project will be funded through federal funds with oversight from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). As a result, this project follows the Plans Development Process (PDP) and will be reviewed by GDOT. As part of the PDP process, American is developing a Concept Report and is preparing a Categorical Exclusion under the National Environmental Policy Act, including the special studies required. A section 404 will be required from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a Stream Buffer Variance will be required from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division.
