Coral Creek Waterway Bridge
This project consisted of the Construction Engineering & Inspection for the construction of a new bridge over Coral Creek waterway on a slightly shifted alignment. The structure is located on a horizontal curve and consists of twelve spans at 36'-6" for a total bridge length of 438'-0". The superstructure is a cast-in-place flat slab supported by pile bents with 24" square prestressed concrete piles. The project also consists of tying in the roadway approaches, installation of a sanitary sewer and storm sewer system. American was responsible for the review of shop drawings, responding to RFI's and daily resident on-site inspection. American also completed redesigns for retaining walls at the bridge abutments which resulted in a cost savings to Charlotte County. A redesign of the parking lot, reconfiguration of a pond and other drainage adjustments were also completed by American. This project won the 2012 American Public Works Association (APWA) (Florida Chapter) award for Public Works project of the year in Transportation for projects between $5-$25 million.
