I-75/SR 56 Interchange from W of CR 54 to W of Cypress Bridge

The purpose of this project is to reconstruct the existing I-75 at SR 56 diamond interchange to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). Specific improvements include modifying lane configurations to improve capacity, geometric refinements along SR 56 and the I-75 ramps to accommodate the DDI configuration, and improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities within the project limits. Under an accelerated schedule of 14 months, all improvements were designed within the existing right of way while maintaining the existing SR 56 over I-75 bridge width and cross slope. The drainage improvements consist of a closed drainage system, median swales, and modifications to existing ponds. Permits were obtained from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwest Florida Water Management District, and Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The project is currently under construction and received a consultant grade of 5.0.
