SR 76 (Kanner Highway) PD&E Study

Martin County, Florida
Client FDOT D4
Completed 2013

From West of CR 711 to East of Cove Road

The project extends from west of CR 711 to east of Cove Road, approximately 2.4 miles in length including the I-95 interchange. FHWA determined a Type 2 categorical exclusion as the class of action for this project through the FDOT’s ETDM programming screen. American evaluated widening SR 76 from two to four lanes between CR 711 to SW Locks Road and from four to six lanes up to Cove Road. Extensive coordination has occurred with Martin County for short-term concurrency improvements they are planning as well as with Martin Metropolitan Planning Organization for long-term improvements. An Alternatives Public Workshop was held in April 2010. American provided the Interchange Modification Report (IMR) to evaluate interchange reconfiguration options. FHWA approved the IMR and concurred with a Section 4(f) determination of applicability. A public hearing was held in July 2012 and the Type II categorical exclusion was approved in October 2013.
